ABOUT

I like the versatility of clay, that it can be used in many ways, from sculpture to functional pieces. I like to imagine new combinations of earth, water, fire, and pigment that will create both beautiful and useful things for society.

I love to experiment with glaze techniques and methods of firing – from raku to soda and crystalline glazes. I help organize workshops that bring ceramic artists together and appreciate the opportunity to interact with faculty and students within the Art Department at the University of Delaware.

Before ceramics, I trained as a nurse at Osaka University Medical School and came to America inspired by an adventurous American woman I met in Japan. After working for almost forty years as a nurse-anesthetist in Michigan and Delaware, and raising a family, I'm glad for the opportunity to pursue ceramics.
